The Pastoral style draws its inspiration from English picturesque and French informal garden dining traditions—where a long wooden farm table, many times carried impromptu from inside the house, was placed en plein air alongside an assortment of garden chairs: painted wrought iron, wicker or rattan.

The Tables

The tables are built of mahogany, a hardwood known to boatbuilders for centuries for its natural resistance to decay. Several hand-rubbed coats of pure tung oil and finely ground fresco pigments are applied which can be maintained, left to weather, or in time, painted. All topside structural hardware is bronze, while the underside fasteners are stainless steel. The decorative and protective elements are solid brass. Unlike many wood outdoor tables, they are well proportioned, considerably heavy, and not slight in design. The chairs are made in France by the
company that holds the original patent on the
classic French folding café chair dating to the
1880s and is the premier manufacturer of metal garden furniture in Europe. Their designs are strikingly French, made from the best quality European steel, and available in several colours. The Company

Pastoral Furniture is a specialty, limited production company—building, on average, fewer than twenty pieces per year. As an artisan, working alone, I am able to carefully control the quality and hand-built authenticity of my furniture.

I believe I am offering something not readily available elsewhere: old world quality outdoor tables and dining furniture designed to be sympathetic to other antique, vintage, reproduction and period pieces—and that are especially suitable to a variety of old-house or church yard settings. By offering my wares directly to my customers, primarily through reference and magazine advertising, I am able to keep my prices reasonable.
